A town has started testing a new crosswalk. The crosswalk says sorry when people must wait.

When the light is red, a small speaker says, "Sorry. Please wait a little longer." If the wait is very long, it adds, "This is awkward for me too."

Many people like the new system. One student said, "I still waited, but I felt respected by the road."

A town worker said the idea came from a meeting about safety. "People wait better when the crosswalk has good manners," he said.

There is one problem. Some people are saying sorry back to the crosswalk. This makes the crossing take even longer.

The town will continue the test for two weeks. If it works well, the next model may say, "Good job crossing safely."
