A town has started testing a new smart bench near the bus stop. The bench can save one seat for a tired person.

The bench does not use cameras. Town workers say it uses "kindness sensors." They did not explain what that means.

When a tired person comes near, a small light turns on. People sitting on the bench usually move a little. No one is forced to move, but the light looks very polite.

On Monday, an office worker approached the bench after carrying a heavy bag. The light turned on. Two students quickly made space.

"I felt chosen by furniture," the worker said.

Some people are worried. They say the bench may become too powerful. One resident asked, "What if it starts saving seats for dramatic people?"

The town will continue the test until next month.
