The Moonlight Vending Machine
Two students find a vending machine that sells small pieces of courage.
After club practice, Nao and Haru missed the last bus by three minutes. The station street was quiet, except for one vending machine glowing under the moon.
"I have never seen that machine before," Nao said.
The drinks inside were strange. One bottle held a tiny sunset. Another held a bright blue spark. The cheapest button had no name, only a small moon mark.
Haru pressed it. A silver can dropped with a soft sound.
"What is it?" Nao asked.
Haru opened the can carefully. It did not smell like soda. It smelled like the moment before saying something brave.
They shared one sip. Suddenly, the empty street felt less lonely.
When the next bus finally arrived, Nao waved at the driver and said, "Good evening," louder than usual. Haru smiled.
The machine was gone the next day, but the moon mark remained on the pavement like a secret receipt.
