School Cat Becomes New Library Manager
Students say the new manager keeps the library very quiet.
A cat at Haruno Junior High School has become the new library manager. The cat's name is Tama.
Tama first came to the school library last month. At first, teachers tried to take him outside. However, Tama sat on the return desk and did not move.
Now, students say Tama is very good at his job. He sleeps near the entrance and watches everyone quietly.
"If we talk too loudly, Tama opens one eye," one student said. "That is scarier than a teacher."
The librarian says the library has become quieter since Tama arrived.
"Tama does not use words," she said. "But his face says, 'Please be quiet.'"
There is one problem. Tama sometimes sleeps on popular books. When that happens, students cannot borrow them.
The school is now making a new rule. Students must wait until Tama wakes up.
Some students are happy about the rule. They say it gives them more time to read other books.
Tama was not available for comment because he was sleeping.
