Community Gym Opens Slow Walking Lane
A new gym lane proves that moving slowly can still be serious exercise.
A community gym in Mizuho Town has opened a new walking lane.
It is called the Slow Lane. People must walk very slowly on it.
The gym made the lane for people who do not like fast exercise.
A staff member uses a stopwatch. If someone walks too fast, he rings a small bell.
“I tried to win,” one man said. “But winning means coming last.”
The lane is popular with older people. Some young people also use it while talking with friends.
There is one rule: no running. There is also no jumping, dancing, or pretending to be a train.
One woman took twelve minutes to finish one lap. Everyone clapped for her.
The gym may open an Even Slower Lane next month. Chairs will be available halfway around it.
